Everyday Miracles #11: Toddler Snow Boots

A snow storm came through my region of the Midwest, thickly frosting the landscape with eight inches of snow. It was still coming down, although much lighter, in the morning when my daughter called. She was hoping that after the snow finally ended, and if I could get out of the driveway, I would stop at a store and pick up a pair of size 7 toddler snow boots.

I would gladly leap tall buildings in a single bound (if only I could) to get my grandson whatever he needed, but that was a tall order so soon after the Christmas shoppers had nearly cleared the shelves. Plus, I knew that there would be plenty of other grandparents, and parents too, shopping for toddler snow boots that day. So I said a prayer asking God to get me a pair of size 7 toddler snow boots for my grandson. And since I was at it, I also asked Him for the little red snow shovel that was out-of-stock two days earlier.

The hunt was on. I did an online search for local stores’ inventory, and made one phone call. It was not looking promising for the snow boots. However, I found a store that claimed to have seven of the little red snow shovels in stock.

It took two hours for the snow to finally stop and the driveway to get shoveled enough to clear my car. By that time, the online scoop on the little red snow shovel was that the inventory was dwindling.

Once I was inside the store, I recruited help from an employee. She led me to the outdoor toy area. When she pointed to the correct aisle, I was delighted to see that little red shovel hanging on a display hook.

The footwear department appeared far less promising. I found a variety of youth rain boots, and plenty of pink, purple, and flowery boots, but nothing that was appropriate for a little boy. . . Until I turned the last corner of the children’s section. In the middle of an array of toddler girl snow boots were the last two pairs of boy snow boots. They were super cute (the heals lit up) and both were size toddler 7.

Just a happy coincidence? Or maybe random good luck? No, I don’t think so. God answered my prayer and led me to where I needed to go. This kind of shopping synergy used to be rare for me. I don’t pray every time I go shopping, but only when it is especially important to me to find something specific. The more I anticipate God’s hand moving to bless me, and look for Him moving in the situation, the more I experience the manifestation of miracles in my everyday life.

God often gives me even more than I asked for. In this case it was the extra cool factor in the boots, plus a pair of navy blue toddler snow pants that perfectly matched the new winter jacket he was given as a Christmas gift.

God is always awesome!!
