Everyday Miracles#1: Highway Rest Stop Assistance

The Lord called my family to move from the East Coast to the Midwest. This was a particularly hard time because I had a stillborn daughter in June of 1992.

My husband and I drove to Kansas to look for a job for him and for a place to live. We had our two-year-old and four-year-old daughters with us. Our older children—three sons—were being cared for by a close friend.

My husband was very apprehensive about our old car making it to Kansas and back, but I knew that God had called us to move and that He would take care of us. So I said a short prayer, “Dear Lord, please give my husband peace and the assurance that we will get there and back okay.”

We were about halfway to Kansas when the car started to make noise. My husband pulled into a highway rest stop and parked the car. In the parking space next to my side of the car was a man leaning against his car with his arms folded. He looked like he was waiting for someone. He was—US!!!

My husband got out of our car, but before he could do anything this stranger injected himself into our situation, and without being invited to.

The stranger said, “Let’s see what we’ve got.” The man opened the hood of our car and began fixing something, all the while explaining to my husband what he was doing. This man was very knowledgeable about car engines.

I sat in the passenger seat watching and listening in absolute ASTONISHMENT!

It took the stranger about half an hour to fix the issue with our engine, and then he closed the hood. The man shook my husband’s hand and said, “Don’t worry. It will get you where you need to go.” – The exact message I had asked the Lord to convey to my husband!

After shaking my husband’s hand, the stranger immediately got into his car and drove away. We drove the rest of the way to Kansas and home again without even the slightest problem with the car!
