Q: Lord, in reference to 1 John 1:9, since we are forgiven of all our sins by Your sacrifice, what did you mean by “If we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us?”

A: Lynne, “confessing your sins” is not for the purpose of gaining My forgiveness. I instruct you to confess, or acknowledge, sins—the area in which you missed My mark, as a way to redirect your spiritual GPS. Remember Paul said that you had to believe in your heart and confess with your mouth to be saved. You must believe in your heart and confess with your mouth to receive anything Me.

In 1 John 1:9 it says that My light uncovers their sins.

So here is the process:

I am your loving Father. When you sin or make a mistake, I lovingly correct you by teaching you the truth, so that you will understand the right way.

And then you believe in your heart that you were in error and accept My correction.

When you speak, or confess, with your voice the truth, you are speaking a Rhema. My Rhema Word is active and alive, repositioning you to move forward in My plans and purposes for your life.

This is My purpose for verbal acknowledgement. The emphasis is not on your past error, but that you have changed your belief.
